Position Description
The Director serves as the coordinator and advisor to the Muncie Arts and Culture Council (MACC). The Director reports to the MACC Board of Directors and serves as a liaison among artists, arts institutions, and related businesses The Director will also work with cultural development organizations, government units and related organizations and their boards on matters involving the Muncie Arts and Culture Community. The Director is a contract employee expected to work an average of 20 hours per week.

Qualifications
Minimum: Must have a bachelor’s degree in an applicable field; 3-5 years leadership experience; strong administrative and interpersonal skills; excellent oral and written communication skills; the ability to motivate, inspire and engage others; demonstrated proficiency in creative problem solving; the ability to delegate and work independently and constructively in a multi-task, multi-project environment.
Preferred Qualifications: Nonprofit management experience; arts or cultural agency related experience; experience in fiscal management and demonstrated success in generating external funding.

Essential Functions
Directs all aspects of the planning, funding, and development of MACC as the primary organization representing the needs and concerns of the arts and culture community in Muncie.

Represents MACC in the establishment of the Muncie Arts and Culture District, a geographically defined area of the city. Works in concert with cultural development organizations, government units and related organizations and their boards to use the district’s many cultural assets as a basis for economic development.

Duties Include
Advises and assists the MACC Board in long and short range strategic planning for MACC and the Muncie Arts and Culture District.

Engages in ongoing outreach effort with arts and cultural organizations as well as individual artists, artisans and entertainers to grow and retain MACC’s membership and to promote cultural projects and programs within the city of Muncie.

Supports and participates in fund-raising activities; cultivates builds and maintains enduring relationships with current and potential funding sources; and assists board members in assuring their effectiveness in their fundraising roles. Actively researches and pursues grant opportunities.

Works with city entities to develop and implement street signage for the cultural district as well as support the development and implementation of bike and bus transportation within the district.

Works with the MACC board and governance committees to develop market communications, based on policies and practices, to foster the reputation of Muncie as an arts destination and to celebrate Muncie’s glass heritage.

Prepares and administers operational budget and makes recommendations to the executive committee on budgeting needs as they relate to personnel, equipment and materials.

Engages and manages volunteers.

Manages Muncie Arts and Cultural Council website

Works in a highly visible environment. Attends meetings, functions and events as required and makes presentations. Occasional evening and weekend work is required to complete job responsibilities.
