Ways to Help Out

We want to promote, organize, and help grow the Muncie community. If you do too, and if you want to support "Project Muncie Scene", here are some ideas to get you started.

Promotion

  • Sponsorship
    A free and easy way to spread the word to a wide audience is to list The Muncie Scene as a sponsor for your events and include "TheMuncieScene.com" on promotional material.
  • Word of mouth
    Tell your friends about the website and what it's trying to do for the community.
  • Name-dropping
    At your events, have your emcee of choice take a moment to remind people to check out TheMuncieScene.com. If you would like, a representative of the project will come to your event to tell people what it's all about.
  • Flyer distribution
    Click on the TheMuncieScene.com flyer over on the right to download the full-sized version, print it out, and put it up around town.

Contribution

  • Content contribution
    See all those links everywhere that say things like "submit an event"? They work! Try them! It's fun!
  • Beat reporting
    Be the regular contributor of information about a particular part of your community that you care about, whether it's your band, a venue that you frequent, or a niche artistic community.

Design & Development

  • Web design
    Think the website can look more presentable, more artistic, or just less fugly? You're right! But graphic design volunteers are needed to take over and give The Muncie Scene a much-needed makeover.
  • Promotional design
    We need designers for flyers, stickers, and other promotional material. Can't have our stickers looking like some lame, hack designer *coughphantomcough* cobbled them together.
  • Web development
    If you're an experienced web developer who's comfortable with PHP 5 in the CakePHP framework, Javascript in the Prototype / Scriptaculous framework, and MySQL, then you could lend a hand in the development and maintenance of the back-end of this website.
  • Testing
    It's a boring job, but someone's got to do it. Attentive volunteers are needed to comb over the website in a variety of browsers and using both computers and mobile devices to try to root out bugs, glitches, errors, and SNAFUs so they can be properly vanquished.

Other

  • Advisory team
    Join the team and help give direction to the project and its role in Muncie. Do you have an idea of what the website should have on it? Better yet, do you want to help create new functionality, new connections to the community, and new content for the website? If so, we'd love to have you involved.
  • Ad sales
    Sell tax-deductible ads for The Muncie Scene and earn commission.
  • Fundraising
    Grantwriters, donation-solicitors, and fundraiser event organizers are needed to help defray the cost of the various expenses incurred in developing, hosting, and promoting The Muncie Scene.
  • Material donations
    You may have read on the leaderboard page how we give out prizes (usually gift certificates) to the top contributors every month. Volunteers are needed to approach local businesses and ask for donations into this incentive program and otherwise hunt down prizes to give away.
