  Live at Birdland features The Birdland Big Band directed by Tommy Igoe in a setting designed to recreate the ambience and experience of a night at Birdland - named after famed alto saxophone player Charlie Parker, nicknamed "Bird," Birdland was founded in New York City in 1949. This dynamic new ensemble, straight from the jazz mecca of NYC, provides an unforgettable musical event that goes beyond the traditional and sets the standard for the 21st-century jazz orchestra. Live at Birdland will feature fresh treatments of iconic Charlie Parker compositions as well as innovative arrangements from contemporary composers such as Chick Corea, Arturo Sandoval, Sting, Herbie Hancock, Lennon/McCartney and Leonard Bernstein. Featuring New York's finest musicians and directed by one of the world's greatest drummers, The Birdland Big Band has become New York City's most popular weekly musical attraction.

  Every Sunday, egos are crushed and legends are born at Trivia Brawl, Muncie's longest-running bar trivia game. Trivia Brawl offers comedy, current events, politics, Muncie pride, pop culture, science, history, and alcohol mixed together into a trivia gameshow cocktail unlike anything else.

  Some of our favorite gimmicks:

  • All players can request trivia topics for next week
  • Every round ends with a song, and players must identify its title, artist, and album
  • After five rounds, the game ends with a visual aid round
  • Booster Charades: The team in last place can play a round of charades on stage while we laugh at them for a bonus point

• The Royal Drummers and Dancers of Burundi 7:30pm @ Emens Auditorium - Muncie, IN

  Considered one of the best percussion ensembles on this planet, Burundi's top drummers have been touring the world since the 1960s. Their vibrant power and precision on twenty drums originally accompanied kings of this central African nation. At home, their music is considered sacred and is linked to regeneration and fertility. But the heart-stopping rhythms have crossed social and cultural barriers worldwide. Spectators at their concerts rarely remain indifferent to the complex and compelling sounds and dance the musicians create.

  Few people are aware of the key rold played by these former royal percussionists in the genesis of the "world music" phenomenon. Yet it was one of their performances that inspired artistic director Thomas Brooman to set up the first WOMAD festival in 1982. By then, they had been touring the world for two decades and appeared on the Joni Mitchell album "The hissing of summer lawns" in 1975.
